RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached resolution to appropriate $27,000 in grant funds from the Kaiser Permanente Community Fund through the Fresno United Neighborhoods (FUN) 501(c)(3) non-profit for various Aquatics programs.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

PARCS was awarded a grant from the Kaiser Permanente Community Fund through FUN to provide various Aquatics programs that requires an appropriation of funds in FY17 totaling $27,000. This grant will enable PARCS to provide swim classes for youth, extended "family swim" time, community special events and a Junior Lifeguard program at various aquatics locations. The additional funding will supplement and enhance core aquatics programs at Learner Pools and also expand lifeguard recruitment and training at all Junior Lifeguard training sites.

BACKGROUND

The City of Fresno PARCS Aquatics Program services over 80,000 swimmers every summer at the eleven swimming pool facilities located throughout the Fresno community. For the last four years, the Kaiser Permanente Community Fund through FUN has provided funding to the PARCS Learner Pool program. The Kaiser Permanente Community Fund grant enabled the PARCS Department to maintain aquatics service in the City of Fresno for Fiscal Years 2013 through 2016 at all five PARCS Learner Pools.
