RECOMMENDATION

 

Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) staff recommends that the Fresno Youth Commission work with Council District 4 to create an annual award to honor youth.

 

BACKGROUND

 

In late September 2019, Council District 4 Chief of Staff Laura Rios met with YLI Program Coordinator Jose Espinoza in regards to creating a youth recognition program. The program will recognize one youth from each council district on an annual basis.

 

On October 11, 2019, City Council District 4 Chief of Staff Laura Rios presented before the commission and proposed that the commission create an award for youth similar to the Women of the Year Award.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS

 

By the definition provided in the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines Section 15378 this item does not qualify as a “project” and is therefore exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act requirements.

 

LOCAL PREFERENCE

 

At this time, it is not possible to determine if local preference will apply to this program.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

 

Any fiscal costs of administering the program will be covered by City Council.
