RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends Council approve the award of a purchase contract to Ruckstell Sales of Fresno, California, for the purchase of 13 Heil 520 Peterbilt side-loading refuse trucks in the amount of $4,947,079.46.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Department of Public Utilities, Solid Waste Management Division wishes to purchase 13 Heil 520 Peterbilt side-loading refuse trucks to replace units past their useful life. The 13 new units will be used by the Solid Waste Management Division to complete residential routes currently assigned to older trucks in need of replacement. The new trucks will be Heil 30-yard rapid rail bodies on 520 Peterbilt chassis. This combination has proven to be reliable within the fleet and will continue to be the standard as the older and discontinued trucks are removed from service. The Department of Transportation recommends this purchase based on the age and mileage of the trucks identified for replacement. The units would be purchased through a competitively solicited cooperative procurement process administered by Sourcewell, formerly the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA).
