concerns regarding public safety in city parks, referencing a prior discussion
held during the police department’s last budget presentation. Requested an
update on park-related safety activities, specifically regarding the
effectiveness of the newly established Parks Ranger classification. Noted
that a Police Department representative had previously offered to provide
statistics on incidents and ranger impact. Addressed the leasing process for
park facilities. A prior presentation from park staff was acknowledged,
recent feedback from community organizations indicated dissatisfaction with
the current process. Suggested allowing more community input and
clarifying responsibilities for maintaining public safety during facility rentals.
Expressed concerns about penalties imposed on youth sports organizations
and the need for more inclusive decision-making. Stated an intention to
formally request that public safety in parks be added to a future agenda for
discussion. Reported that a meeting had taken place with a councilmember
and the PARCS Director prior to a recent vacation to address these issues
and emphasized the importance of listening to neighborhood voices.
VICE CHAIR WARD REPORTS AND COMMENTS. Highlighted several arts
and cultural events currently taking place around the city, supported by
Measure “P” funded organizations. Announced the Armenian Museum has
opened a new exhibit and remains free and accessible to the public on most
weekdays. Commissioners and community members were encouraged to
visit. Fresno Art Museum is featuring an exhibit of stone sculptures from
Zimbabwe, primarily drawn from the private collection of former
commissioner Mona Cummings. Announced Arte Américas is presenting its
"Monumental Figures" exhibit and has extended its outdoor sculpture
installations to Fresno State and Fresno City College. The public was
encouraged to visit these locations while the exhibits remain on display.
CHAIR MCCOY REPORTS AND COMMENTS. Extended a personal
invitation to attend a community event taking place on Saturday at Fresno
City College West Campus. The event will feature Dr. Bruce Trouble from
Tallahassee, Florida, who will speak about his latest book, By Any Dreams
Necessary. The program will include a deep conversation focused on
community empowerment, activism, strategic planning for the 21st century,
and the use of data to drive advocacy. Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m., and the event will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. The event is
free and open to the public, with food provided. Encouraged attendance and
emphasized the value of the discussion in supporting local advocacy efforts
