Commissioner Oputa Comments. Recognized March as Women's History
Month. Congratulated Professor Lee Herrick of Fresno City College for his
appointment as California's Poet Laureate.
Commissioner Cummings Comments. Announced Tree Fresno, in
partnership with the City of Fresno and the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, planted 79
trees on March 24, 2023. The event utilized volunteers from Golden Charter
Academy, the Green Team Youth Ambassador Program and Advance
Peace.

City Administration and PARCS Staff Reports and Comments
PARCS Director Aguirre Comments. Thanked PARCS Department staff and
others for working late nights and weekends to keep the warming centers
open continuously from December 21, 2022, thru March 21, 2023. The
PARCS Department hosted four well attended community meetings in March
to discuss "high needs parks" with community members.

Assistant PARCS Director Chinevere presented the workshop.
Commission discussion on this item included: improvements at the Hinton
Community Center not including the building; why some parks have
Measure "P" signs but not others; how multi-year projects are budgeted
within the PARCS Department; providing invitations to Commissioners for
ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremonies; utilizing the full names of
parks with culturally significant names instead of the park initials; which
courts at Vinland Park were being resurfaced; the amount of community
input received prior to creating new parks and the possibility of utilizing the
existing PRAC survey's; priority for groups that reserve park amenities over
those groups that do not make reservations; the possibility of Measure "P"
Cultural Arts related projects being part of larger capital projects for the
economy of scale.
