SUBJECT

Title

***RESOLUTION - Adopt the 12th Amendment to FY 2022 Salary Resolution No. 2021-176, amending “Exhibit 8, Unit 8, Non-Represented effective January 1, 2022,” to adjust the salary range for the Intern classification from a maximum of $17.00 per hour to a maximum of $19.00 per hour (Subject to Mayor’s Veto).

Body

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that Council approve the Twelfth Amendment to the Salary Resolution No. 2021-176 to amend the salary range for the Intern classification found in Exhibit 8, Unit 8, Non-Represented, effective January 1, 2022.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

To establish an effective work experience program by attracting interns to the City, and to maintain a similar and equitable pay range amongst other temporary classifications such as the Services Aide classification, it is necessary to amend the salary range for the Intern classification found in Exhibit 8, Unit 8, Non-Represented, effective January 1, 2022 from a maximum of $17.00 per hour to a maximum of $19.00 per hour.

To implement these actions, it is necessary to approve the Twelfth Amendment to FY 2022 Salary Resolution No. 2021-176.

BACKGROUND

To establish an effective work experience program by attracting interns to the City, and to maintain a similar and equitable pay range amongst other temporary classifications, it is necessary that the salary range for the Intern position be amended. It is recommended that the salary range for this classification be adjusted from $15.00 - $17.00 per hour to $15.00 - $19.00 per hour.  This adjustment will provide more opportunity to recruit, attract and retain future employees for the City while maintaining competitive pay in this current competitive job market.

The modified salary range will increase the opportunity to recruit Interns and provide equitable pay in comparison to other temporary classes.

The City Attorney’s Office has approved the Twelfth Amendment to Salary Resolution No. 2021-176 as to form.

ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS

By the definition provided in the California Environmental Quality Act Guidelines Section 15378 this item does not qualify as a “project” and is therefore exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act requirements.

LOCAL PREFERENCE

Local preference is not implicated because this item does not involve public contracting or bidding with the City of Fresno.

FISCAL IMPACT

Amending the salary range of the Intern classification will not require additional appropriations for Fiscal Year 2022.
