RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommend that the City Council adopt the resolution authorizing the grant application, acceptance, and execution of related documents for up to $450,000 from OTS to fund bicycle and pedestrian safety programming in Fresno.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Parks, After School, Recreation, and Community Services (PARCS) Department is seeking grant funding from the State of California OTS to provide bicycle and pedestrian safety programming throughout the City of Fresno. Adoption of the resolution will authorize submittal of the application for grant funding and acceptance of grant funds if awarded.
BACKGROUND
Bicycle and pedestrian safety education is an important safety strategy identified in the City of Fresno Active Transportation Plan and prioritized by the City of Fresno Active Transportation Advisory Committee. To advance safety priorities, the PARCS Department annually seeks federal grant funding from OTS to support bicycle and pedestrian safety education efforts which include educational booths, bicycle safety clinics or "bike rodeos", after school activities, presentations, and community events. Education efforts focus on reaching at-risk populations, including seniors and youth.
