Body
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Council approve the First Amendment to the Lease Agreement between the City of Fresno and The Meux Home Corporation to extend the term of the agreement through June 30, 2027, for property located at 1007 R Street, commonly known as the Meux Home.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The property commonly known as the Meux Home, located at 1007 R Street, is under Lease Agreement with The Muex Home Corporation for the purpose of operating and maintaining the property as an 1889 house museum open to the general public. The term of the Lease Agreement is February 9, 2017, through June 30, 2025, which included one automatic five (5) year extension. Staff desires to amend the Lease Agreement to allow for one additional one (1) year extension. The intention of this extension is to allow the City and Meux Home Corporation ample time to negotiate a new lease agreement.
BACKGROUND
The Meux Home was occupied for 81 years by the Meux family from 1889 to 1970. The Meux Home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 14, 1975.
The Meux Home Corporation was created to operate the Meux Home for historical preservation, and in 1979 entered into an agreement with the City to operate the house as a museum. The Meux Home Corporation is a nonprofit corporation whose sole purpose is the operation and preservation of the museum. Guided tours are offered and led by knowledgeable docents who share captivating stories about the home's architecture, its former residents, and daily life of the Victorian era.
