RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council approve the award of a purchase contract to Golden State Fire Apparatus Inc. of Sacramento, California, for the purchase of two Boise Mobile Equipment (BME) type-six wildland fire engines in the amount of $682,757.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Fresno Fire Department seeks to purchase two BME type-six wildland fire trucks, to provide fire suppression services throughout the City of Fresno and surrounding areas. These new units will be type-six fire engines serving as front line emergency response to fires, accidents, and 911 calls. Type-six wildland units are included in the August 29, 2022, Fire Department Apparatus Replacement Plan memorandum under the category of specialty units. The units will be purchased as replacements through a competitively solicited cooperative procurement process administered by the Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC). The vendor's proposal is valid through October 27, 2022.
BACKGROUND
The Fresno Fire Department, established in 1877, is one of the oldest fire departments in the United States, and the largest department in the Central Valley. The department operates 20 fire stations and responds to emergency calls with fully staffed fire engines and support vehicles.
The type-six fire engines serve in a unique role as they are smaller and lighter than the typical type-one engine.
