RECOMMENDATION

 

It is recommended that City Council adopt the attached Resolution declaring the results of the March 18, 2025, Special Election.

 

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

On April 4, 2025, the City Clerk’s Office received a certified abstract of the canvass of the results of the Special Election held March 18, 2025, from the Fresno County Clerk. A resolution declaring the election results is attached for approval by the City Council as required by Elections Code 15400.

 

BACKGROUND

 

A Special Election was held on March 18, 2025, for the purpose of electing a representative to fill the vacancy in Council District 5.  The Fresno County Clerk / Registrar of Voters returned a certified Statement of Votes Cast which details the election results as follows:

 

COUNCIL DISTRICT 5

Brandon Vang won the Special Election for Council District 5 with 50.19 percent of the vote.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS

 

By the definition provided in the California Environment Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines, this item is

not a “project” for the purpose of CEQA.

 

LOCAL PREFERENCE

 

Local Preference was not implemented because this action does not include a bid or an award of a

City construction contract.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

 

Election costs are funded through the General Fund and were previously budgeted in the Fiscal

Year 2025 Budget.
