Staff recommends Council approve the award of a Cooperative Purchase Agreement to Quinn Company of Fresno, California for the purchase of one Caterpillar model AP1055 asphalt paver in the amount of $1,037,080.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Department of Public Works, Street Maintenance Division is requesting approval to purchase one Caterpillar model AP1055 asphalt paver as a replacement. The new paving machine will be used by City crews to pave streets with hot mix asphalt throughout the City of Fresno. The new unit will be purchased through a competitively solicited cooperative procurement process administered by Sourcewell.
BACKGROUND
The Department of Public Works, Street Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining 1,805 miles of City streets and boulevards. As street pavements degrade to the end of their service life, asphalt paving is needed to restore the street back to a good and serviceable condition. City maintenance crews pave streets using approximately 60,000 to 70,000 tons of asphalt annually as part of the ongoing maintenance to preserve and improve street quality. The asphalt paving machine is the primary piece of equipment used to place an asphalt overlay. The paving machine automatically spreads, levels, and pre-compacts the asphalt to a uniform thickness before a large drum roller finalizes the compaction.
