RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached agreement with Jones and Madhavan Architecture Engineering in the amount of $92,000 for the aquatics analysis and design of plans for designated PARCS aquatics facilities.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The proposed analysis of PARCS aquatics facilities will allow for an assessment of all swimming pools operated by this department. This Consultant Agreement with Jones and Madhavan is for the assessment of Standard, Learner, and Wader Pools, and will also include plans for the Airways and Frank H. Ball Swimming Pool system refurbishments.

BACKGROUND

The majority of aquatics facilities maintained by this department are extremely old and in need of significant renovation or replacement. The oldest pool, Frank H. Ball, was built in 1939, while the newest pool located at the Mosqueda Community Center was built in the 1980's. This department currently operates nine (9) swimming pools, all of which are very dated and in serious need of upgrades and repair.

The four (4) Standard Pools (Airways, Frank H. Ball, Mary Ella Brown, and Mosqueda) were all built at different times with each having very unique operating systems. The five (5) Learner Pools (Einstein, Fink White, Pinedale, Quigley, and Romain) were all built during the 1960's, as were the wader pools.
