RECOMMENDATION

It is also recommended Council approve the1st Amendment to Position Authorization Resolution No. 2019-134, adding one (1) position to the Retirement Division.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Retirement Administrator has recommended and the Retirement Board has approved the addition of one Assistant Retirement Administrator to serve as the chief of member services with an emphasis on responsive service and meaningful education of the respective members.

BACKGROUND

After an extensive review of the structure and organization of the Retirement Office, the Retirement Administrator has recommended and the Retirement Board has approved the addition of one Assistant Retirement Administrator. The addition of this position will allow the Retirement Office to dedicate more time and resources to Member Services by focusing the time and effort of the existing Assistant Retirement Administrator on the financial functions of the Office as the Chief Financial Officer, The new Assistant Retirement Administrator will function as the Chief of Member Services.

Since the Retirement Office's main customer, stakeholder interactions are primarily with the members and retirees the Retirement Board has supported this change to provide a significant leadership role responsible for the work and activities of the Member Services Division. Additionally with an emphasis on member education the new Assistant Retirement Administrator will be responsible for directing communication and the delivery of informational programs to meet the needs of the various members.
