Body

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that Council authorize the adoption of the Fifth Amendment to the PAR No. 2025-178, adding ten (10) unfunded full-time Firefighter Trainee positions in the Fire Department.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Fresno Fire Department requests to add ten (10) unfunded Firefighter Trainee positions to ensure adequate staffing to meet current and anticipated vacancies within the Fire Department.

BACKGROUND

To support the Fire Departments operational needs and to ensure adequate staffing levels, staff recommends adding ten (10) unfunded Firefighter Trainee positions.

The classification of Firefighter Trainee is the initial classification for individuals hired into the Fire Department prior to completing drill school and promoting into a Firefighter position.  Firefighter Trainee is a non-sworn classification, and permanent status cannot be obtained as a Firefighter Trainee.

The City Attorney’s Office has approved the Fifth Amendment to the PAR No. 2025-178 as to form.

ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS

This request to amend the PAR does not qualify as a project for the purposes of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines Section 15378 and is therefore exempt from the CEQA requirements.

LOCAL PREFERENCE

Local preference is not applicable to this action, as this request to amend the PAR does not involve a contract award.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no impact to the General Fund.
