RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommend that the City Council authorize a grant application of up to $300,000 to the CA OTS for bicycle and pedestrian safety programming, acceptance of grant funding, and execution of related documents by the City Manager or designee.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Staff are requesting authority to apply for and accept grant funds of up to $300,000 from CA OTS for bicycle and pedestrian safety programming. Grant applications are due by January 31, 2024.
BACKGROUND
Bicycle and pedestrian safety education is an important safety strategy identified in the City of Fresno Active Transportation Plan (2017) and prioritized by the City of Fresno Active Transportation Advisory Committee. To advance safety priorities, the PARCS Department annually seeks Federal grant funding from the CA OTS to support bicycle and pedestrian safety education efforts which include educational booths, bicycle safety clinics or "bike rodeos", after school activities, presentations, and community events. In December 2023, the CA OTS released a grant solicitation for the period from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025. Grant applications are due on January 31, 2024.
