RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council approve the award of a cooperative purchase agreement to Ruckstell Sales of Fresno, California, for the purchase of eleven Peterbilt side-loading refuse trucks in the amount of $3,973,500.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Solid Waste Management Division, under the Department of Public Utilities, wishes to purchase eleven Peterbilt side-loading refuse trucks to replace units past their useful life.
The new units will be used by the Solid Waste Management Division to complete residential routes currently assigned to older trucks, which are in need of replacement. The new trucks will be Heil 30-yard rapid rail bodies on Peterbilt chassis. This combination has proven to be reliable within the fleet and will be the standard moving forward as the older and discontinued trucks are removed from service.
The Fleet Management Division recommends this purchase based on the age and mileage of the trucks identified for replacement. The units would be purchased through a competitively solicited cooperative procurement process administered by the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA).
