Staff recommends that Council review and accept the ATAC's biannual report, which provides an overview of activities for the period between October 2025 and March 2026.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
On October 8, 2002, the City Council voted 7-0 to establish the Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC), formerly known as the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), along with its charter and by-laws. The ATAC was created to advise the Council on bicycle and pedestrian matters citywide, with the goal of ensuring that Public Works projects are designed and implemented with careful consideration for bicyclists and pedestrians.
This biannual report provides an overview of the ATAC's activities and accomplishments from October 2025 through March 2026. The ATAC's intent is to continue providing these reports to the Council on a biannual basis.
BACKGROUND
On October 8, 2002, the City Council voted 7-0 to establish the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), along with the charter and by-laws guiding its role in advising the Council on bicycle and pedestrian matters throughout the City. On May 25, 2023, the Council approved a resolution renaming the BPAC to the Active Transportation Advisory Committee (ATAC). This change was in name only, as the committee continued to advance its longstanding goals of promoting safety and ensuring thoughtful consideration of bicycle and pedestrian needs in the design and implementation of all Public Works projects affecting these users.
