RECOMMENDATIONS

Staff recommends that the City Council approve a consultant agreement with Blair, Church & Flynn Consulting Engineers, in the amount of $145,100 and a contingency of $15,000 for professional engineering services to rehabilitate and replace sewer pipes in Chinatown and authorize the Director, or his designee, to sign the agreement on behalf of the City.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Department of Public Utilities Wastewater Management Division is seeking to award a consultant services agreement to Blair, Church & Flynn Consulting Engineers for the design of replacement and rehabilitation of sewers in Chinatown. The area currently has old sewer lines, some dating back to 1890. Sewer rehabilitation/replacement is proposed where necessary to remedy structural deficiencies. Staff is seeking to award a contract in the amount of $145,100 with a contingency of $15,000 to Blair, Church & Flynn Consulting Engineers.

BACKGROUND

In conjunction with the Downtown Revitalization Planning, the Collection System Maintenance work group performed an inspection of the Downtown sewer systems.
