MICHAEL MURPHY

Michael Murphy, Water System Operator II, submitted an Idea$ Pay recommendation for an innovative solution to a problem at the Water Division.

Michael provided his professional opinion on the Water Division's security gate installation and layout. - There were nine (9) water meters out of the approximate sixty (60) meters that were too tall to open and read after the new gate was installed.

The options were to reorder new shorter meters or have the meters cut and re-welded. Michael's recommended solution was to take the hinged lid which opens upward and modify it so it swings to the side allowing the meter to be read.

The costs savings, benefits and effect from Michael's lid modification takes about ten (10) minutes to complete and requires only a ten cent per screw.

After meeting with Mr. Murphy and confirming the one-time cost savings with the Water Division's Accounting Section, it was determined that an award in the amount of $100 was merited to Michael Murphy.

The cost savings, benefit and effect has been that much less fuel is used to haul away waste material; less material purchased for backfill, less sorting done on jobsite which will help t...
