Title

***BILL NO. B-42 - (Intro. 11/19/2015) (For adoption)  - Amending Section 2-1105, Subsections (a) and (b) of the Fresno Municipal Code to revise the Local Campaign Contribution

Body

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that Council approve the amendments to the Local Campaign Contribution Ordinance, Section 2-1105 of the Fresno Municipal Code.  The amendments include revising Subsections (a) and (b) of Section 2-1105.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Each election year the City Attorney’s Office reviews the Local Campaign Contribution Ordinance and adjusts campaign contribution limits as set by the Fair Political Practices Commission.

BACKGROUND

City Council adopted an ordinance establishing campaign contribution limits to candidates in the Fresno Municipal Code.  The contribution limits for candidates for the City elective office are the same as for candidates for State Assembly under the Political Reform Act.  The contribution limits are adjusted every odd numbered year by the Fair Political Practices Commission, in accordance with the Consumer Price Index.  The contribution limits effective January 1, 2015 through December 31, 2016 are set at $4200 from persons and $8,500 from small contributor committee for a single election.  The amended ordinance reflects the current campaign contribution limits to candidates.
