Actions pertaining to the 2016/2017 Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) grant
1. Authorize the Chief of Police to accept $100,000 in grant funding for the 2016/2017 ABC grant awarded to the Fresno Police Department from the State of California Alcoholic Beverage Control
2. Authorize the Chief of Police to execute the agreement and all related documents applicable to the 2016/2017 ABC grant

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that Council authorize acceptance of $100,000 in grant funding from the ABC, allowing the Chief of Police to enter into and execute the agreement and all program required documents. Funds have been awarded for the 2016/2017 Alcoholic Beverage Control grant to the Fresno Police Department's ABC Enforcement Program.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
ABC has awarded $100,000 in grant funding to the Fresno Police Department to provide prevention, education, and enforcement of alcohol related enforcement issues. The grant period is from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. The funding will assist with the cost of the detective assigned to the grant, program related operations, and training. Funding has been incorporated into the FY 2017 budget.
BACKGROUND
With 1,060 premises licensed to serve or sell alcohol within the City of Fresno (531 off-sale and 529 on-sale), the Department realizes the importance of issues related to alcoholic beverage education, enforcement, and abuse prevention. The ABC Program's goal is to increase alcohol awareness; educate officers, licensees and the community on laws involving alcohol sales, and to hold licensees accountable.
