Staff recommends your approval of this special election to fill the vacant seat for District 5.

 

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

Sal Quintero, incumbent for District 5 on the Fresno City Council was elected to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors on June 7, 2016, and will take office on January 3, 2017.  In order to fill his vacant seat, a special election must be held.

 

BACKGROUND

 

On June 7, 2016, Sal Quintero ran for a seat on the Fresno County Board of Supervisors and won that seat as shown by the results of the election which was certified by County Clerk, Brandi Orth on July 1, 2016.

 

Councilmember Quintero submitted his resignation to the City Clerk on July 8, 2016 with an effective date of January 3, 2017.  The earliest election to fill the seat for District 5 is November 8, 2016.
