RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended the City Council authorize the Chief of Police to execute a joint agreement between the City of Fresno and the County of Fresno; and adopt Annual Appropriation Resolution No. 2016-118 appropriating $205,000 from the 2016 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The application process for this program is a joint application with one agency named as the fiscal/reporting agent through a joint agreement. The agreement, the City of Fresno will act as the fiscal agent to administer these funds. The City of Fresno's allocation is $204,941 and the remaining allocation of $64,267 is for the County of Fresno for a total grant allocation of $269,208. The 2016 JAG application was brought before and approved by Council on June 16, 2016. Now in the award period, a joint agreement is required for final award.

BACKGROUND

JAG funding is based on Federal budget allocations and is anticipated on an annual basis, however funding amounts are unknown until the application period begins.
