RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council award a construction contract in the amount of $570,840 to Avison Construction Company of Madera, California, as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder for the Nees Avenue Westbound Widening from Maple Avenue to Hayston Avenue and authorize the Public Works Director or designee to sign the contract on the City's behalf.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The proposed westbound widening of Nees Avenue between Maple Avenue and Hayston Avenue will provide for more efficient vehicle movement on Nees Avenue by eliminating traffic congestion particularly at peak travel times. The installation of sidewalk on the north side of Nees Avenue will also provide for easier pedestrian travel on this section of Nees Avenue.
BACKGROUND
The project will help alleviate traffic congestion on Nees Avenue by widening the street for westbound traffic from one lane to two lanes between Maple Avenue and Hayston Avenue. Work includes clearing and grubbing, asphalt saw cutting, roadway excavation and grading, aggregate base and asphalt paving, sidewalk and ADA compliant curb ramp and return, curb and gutter, pavement markers, striping and road signage, traffic signal modifications and streetlights.
