RECOMMENDATION

Staff and the Administration recommend the City Council adopt the resolution naming the FAX Administration Building the Bruce Rudd Fresno Area Express (FAX) Administration Building.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

City Manager Bruce Rudd has served the City of Fresno with distinction for over forty years.  His dedication and commitment to our community is highly regarded and worthy of special recognition.  Naming The Fresno Area Express (FAX) Administration Building as the “Bruce Rudd Fresno Area Express (FAX) Administration Building” is an appropriate honor given his humble beginnings in this department, and his rise through the ranks culminating in his appointment as City Manager.  His direct involvement in securing financing, planning, and implementing the Bus Rapid Transit system is one of many crowning achievements.

Bruce Rudd is a lifelong resident of the community who has dedicated over 40 years to serving Fresno.  He was appointed City Manager by Mayor Ashley Swearengin in 2013.  Bruce’s legacy is calm and collected leadership paired with a personal style that is compassionate and kind.  His steady hand and eye towards the long term health of the City’s financial position has restored municipal services without compromising the future viability of the organization and the community he serves.

Bruce was hired in 1976 as an Equipment Serviceman I and steadily moved his way up the ranks as an Equipment Mechanic, Bus Lead Worker, Bus Maintenance Supervisor, Transit Maintenance Manager, General Manager, Director of Transportation, Assistant City Manager and finally City Manager.

Bruce is admired for his creativity and perseverance to negotiate intricate and exciting projects that benefit the community as well as employees.

Bruce faces difficult challenges with intellect, collaboration, and often grit.  He is tireless in his efforts to resolve issues that arise.  His thoughtfulness, foresight, good-nature and excellent communication skills have been a reassuring force in Fresno City government over the last four decades.
