RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council approve the attached ten-year agreement with two five-year extensions with Bullard Cal Ripken, allowing priority access to the baseball field at Fig Garden Loop Park in exchange for maintenance services at Fig Garden Loop Park.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Bullard Cal Ripken agrees to provide maintenance, landscaping and repair services for the Fig Garden Loop Park Baseball Field, in exchange for priority access to all baseball fields. The Agreement is for ten years, with the option of two five-year extensions.

BACKGROUND
The Bullard Cal Ripken League (the League) was instrumental in the original overall planning of the Fig Garden Loop Park and they attended all of the community meetings, offered feedback and assisted with the ground-breaking in November 2008 and grand opening of the park in January 2010. Since that time the League also agreed to fund the cost of maintaining the green space at the park. While the City has been fortunate to have a partner who was willing to help in maintaining the park, the ongoing cost of maintenance has proven to be a financial strain on the League.

Nevertheless, the League is still willing to fund the annual cost of maintaining the baseball field, which is estimated to be approximately $27,500 in exchange for priority access to the field. The City would still benefit from this agreement considering that a year-long reservation of the baseball field would generate reservation fees for the City of approximately $4,800.
