RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended Council approve the 20th amendment to AAR No. 2017-165 for $373,500 to appropriate the funding to the Fire Department FY 2018 budget, Fund 22033 - CAL OES fund for related expenditures and reimbursements.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On June 23, 2017, the City Council approved a contract between the City of Fresno and Cal OES. Under the contract, the Fresno Fire Department participates in a training program for Type II Hazardous Materials Apparatus as part of the Cal OES Haz Mat program. Fresno Fire was awarded one of the apparatus and the commensurate training to staff for said equipment. Cal OES will coordinate all training associated with the apparatus and fund backfill necessary to staff vacancies caused by personnel attending requisite training. The training contract with Cal OES will reimburse up to $373,481 in related training costs.

BACKGROUND

Cal OES, Fire, Rescue, and Haz Mat Program developed a Regional Hazardous Materials Program which is similar to the Cal OES Fire Engine Program. The program is intended to provide additional response capability and fill in the gaps across the state where there is limited or no response capability for Haz Mat by Rail. Cal OES has distributed twelve (12) Type 2 Haz Mat Emergency Response Vehicles. Each of the Vehicles has all required FIRESCOPE Type 2 standardized equipment.
