EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In 2016, the City of Fresno implemented the Weekend Recreation and Fitness Program (WRFP) with the primary goals of:  (1) providing additional green space (access) and enhanced recreation; and, (2) fitness and nutrition programs (services) in neighborhoods that were identified as “green space deserts.” The WRFP is offered on Saturday and Sunday at various school sites in partnership with the City of Fresno PARCS Department, the Fresno Unified School District (at fourteen school sites), and with Central Unified School District (at two school sites).

PARCS staff is delivering an oral presentation for the purpose of providing the Council with: (1) a comprehensive overview of the WRFP; (2) an illustration of the effect of adding “blue space” (pool access and programming); (3) a summary of recommendations for improvements, and, (4) a review of requests and recommendations for future operations and program augmentation.
