RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the 1st Amendment to the Annual Appropriation Resolution No. 2017-165, to appropriate $175,000 for City design and construction costs of installing street lighting along Bulldog Lane and Millbrook Avenue adjacent to Bulldog Stadium at California State University, Fresno (Fresno State).

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Fresno State has worked in partnership with the Mayor's Office, Council District 4 and Public Works staff to develop a cooperative project for the installation of street lighting on Bulldog Lane and Millbrook Avenue adjacent to the Bulldog Stadium. With the approval of the Council, the City will receive $125,000 from Fresno State and proceed with the construction phase of the project, utilizing $50,000 in Measure "C" funds for the balance of the project costs.

BACKGROUND

The streets surrounding Bulldog Stadium lack street lighting along the Stadium frontage. This area is traveled by many students who live in nearby apartments and walk to and from the college, as well as community members attending events at Bulldog Stadium. Installing street lighting will greatly increase the illumination levels and improve safety in the area.

Staff has received a letter of intent from Fresno State (see attached) to provide $125,000 for the construction project. The City of Fresno will contribute $50,000 of Measure "C" Flexible Funds towards the project.
