RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends Council approve the award of a cooperative purchase agreement to Ruckstell Sales of Fresno, California, for the purchase of two 520 Peterbilt rear-loading refuse trucks in the amount of $612,959.33.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Solid Waste Management Division, under the Department of Public Utilities (DPU), wishes to purchase two 520 Peterbilt rear-loading refuse trucks to replace units past their useful life. The two new units will be used by the Solid Waste Management Division to complete residential routes currently assigned to older trucks in need of replacement. The new trucks will be Heil 27 yard Durapack 5000 bodies on 520 Peterbilt chassis. This combination has proven to be reliable within the fleet and will continue to be the standard as the older and discontinued trucks are removed from service. The Municipal Fleet Division recommends this purchase based on the age and mileage of the trucks identified for replacement. The units would be purchased through a competitively solicited cooperative procurement process administered by Source Well, formally the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA).
