RECOMMENDATION

 

It is recommended that the City council adopt the attached Resolution declaring the results of the November 6, 2018 General Election.

 

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

On December 7, 2018, the City Clerk’s Office received from the County Clerk a certified abstract of the canvass of the results of the General Election held on November 6, 2018.  Under California Elections Code 10263(b), the City Council must now declare the results of the election.  An appropriate resolution has been prepared and is being presented for adoption.

 

BACKGROUND

 

The results of the General Election held on November 6, 2018, are as follows:  (1) Miguel Arias received the majority of votes cast within District 3; (2) Luis Chavez received the majority of votes cast within District 5; (3) Nelson Esparza received the majority of votes cast within District 7; (4) Measure A, regarding a new Cannabis Business License received more than 50%+1 of the votes cast citywide; (5) Measure O, regarding technical charter cleanup , did not receive 50%+1 of the votes cast citywide and failed, and (6) Measure P, regarding a proposed Fresno Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Tax Ordinance, did not receive 2/3’s of the vote cast citywide and failed; and (7) Measure Q, regarding a balanced budget amendment to the Charter, received 50%+1 of the votes cast citywide.

 

All of the Councilmembers-Elect will begin serving their term as Councilmembers of the City of Fresno upon administration of the Oath of Office currently scheduled for January 10, 2019.

 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS

 

This resolution is not a project for purposes of the California Environment Quality Act.

 

LOCAL PREFERENCE

 

Local preference was not duplicated because this item does not include a bid or an award of a construction or service contract.

 

FISCAL IMPACT

 

Election costs are funded through the General Fund and have already been budgeted in the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget.
