RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached Resolution declaring the results of the August 13, 2019 Special Election.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On August 21, 2019, the City Clerk's Office received from the County Clerk a certified abstract of the canvass of the results of the Special Election to fill the vacancy in District 2, held on August 13, 2019. Under the Elections Code, the City Council must now declare the results of the election. An appropriate resolution has been prepared and is being presented for adoption.

BACKGROUND

The results of the Special Election to fill the vacancy in District 2 held on August 13, 2019, illustrate that Mike Karbassi received the majority of votes cast within District 2. Pursuant to California Elections Code Section 10263(a), the City Council must formally declare the election results and install the newly elected officers. Mike Karbassi will begin serving his term as Councilmember, District 2, upon administration of the oath of office.

ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS

By the definition provided in the California Environment Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines, this item is not a "project" for the purpose of CEQA.




LOCAL PREFERENCE

Local Preference was not implemented because this action does not include a bid or an award of a City construction contract.

Election costs are funded through the General Fund and have already been budgeted in the Fiscal Year 2...
