Recognition of the City of Fresno as a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists.

* Renewed its Bronze status as a League of American Bicyclists Bicycle Friendly Community for 3rd time since 2010

* The Bicycle Friendly Community program asks communities to evaluate the state of bicycling and work towards ways to improve quality of life, sustainability and transportation options for more people. Through this award process, we've been able to benchmark our progress toward improving our bicycle-friendliness and see how much more we can do.

* Currently nearly 500 Bicycle Friendly Communities in 50 states and the District of Columbia. We made the cut, while not every place has. It's a testament to the community and its dedication to seeing real change on the ground.

* The League emphasizes that bicycling is a simple solution to many of the challenges we face in our country. As Fresno residents know well, bicycling is about mobility, sustainability, health and so much more - Bicycle Friendly Communities are great places to live, work and visit.

* As the Traffic Operations & Planning team here will certainly tell you, applying for Bicycle Friendly Community designation is no small endeavor. It takes tremendous effort to gather all of the information required, and to bring all the right people to the table.

* The League was impressed with many aspects of Fresno's efforts to build a bicycle-friendly community. The following areas were identified as Very Good or Excellent or comparable to the average Silver status community
o Bicycle Education in Schools
o Bike Month and Bike to Work Events
o Bicycle Friendly Laws and Ordinances
o The number of high speed roads with bike facilities
o Share of transportation budget spent on bicycling
o Active Bicycle Advocacy Group - meets monthly (avg. Silver community meets every 2 months)
