RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached Resolution declaring the results of the March 3, 2020 Primary Election.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On April 3, 2020, the City Clerk's Office received from the Fresno County Clerk a certified abstract of the canvass of the results of the Primary Election held on March 3, 2020. Under the Elections Code 15400, the City Council must now declare the results of the election. An appropriate resolution has been prepared and is being presented for adoption.

BACKGROUND

The results of the Primary Election held on March 3, 2020, illustrates that, Mike Karbassi (District 2), and Garry Bredefeld (District 6) received over 50 percent of the votes within the City of Fresno. Mike Karbassi and Garry Bredefeld will continue serving their term as City Councilmembers of the City of Fresno upon administration of the oaths of office currently scheduled in January of 2021.

Tyler Maxwell (District 4) received 52.39 percent and Jerry Dyer (Mayor) received 51.68 percent and will begin serving their term upon administration of the oath of office currently scheduled for January 7, 2021.

ENVIRONMENTAL FINDINGS

By the definition provided in the California Environment Quality Act (CEQA) Guidelines, this item is not a "project" for the purpose of CEQA.



LOCAL PREFERENCE

Local Preference was not implemented because this action does not include a bid or an award of a City construction contract.

FISCAL IMPACT

Election costs are funded through the General Fund and have already been budgeted in the Fiscal Year 2020 Budget.
