RECOMMENDATIONS

Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the 21st Amendment to the Annual Appropriation Resolution No. 2020-159 to appropriate $724,500 for the MLK Center Active Transportation Project, also known as the Transformative Climate Communities Leverage Project Southwest Offsite Improvements, in the Public Works Department.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Staff is preparing to initiate the design of the MLK Center Active Transportation Project, which is funded with a federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program grant and local Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Program (SB-1) funds as the match. The project was awarded the CMAQ grant in 2017. Staff recommends Council adopt the amendment to the AAR in order to provide appropriations in the Public Works FY2021 Capital Budget to sufficiently cover anticipated expenditures for the cost of this project.

BACKGROUND

Staff is seeking Council approval of the attached AAR amendment which will appropriate funding for the MLK Center Active Transportation Project. The project is fully funded via CMAQ and SB-1 funds for a total project cost of $5,617,500, with $724,500 of appropriations being requested for the current FY2021 budget year.
