BACKGROUND

At the November 12, 2020 Youth Commission meeting, the organization Faith in the Valley presented information regarding a summit held by youth and City officials pertaining to rising violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. The summit provided youth the space to voice concerns to officials and three main recommendations for youth assistance resulted from the summit: supportive services, mentoring, and safe havens.

1st Vice Chair Martinez, 2nd Vice Chair Galvan, and Commissioner Vergara volunteered to work with Faith in the Family to research and craft policies to bring to the Youth Commission in order to request City Council adequately fund the youth summit recommendations.
