RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends Council accept the Equitable Economic Mobility Initiative (EEMI) Grant Program for the amount of $70,000 and approve the MOU agreement between the City of Fresno and Bitwise.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On May 26, 2021, the City of Fresno Economic Development Department, in partnership with Bitwise, applied for an Equitable Economic Mobility Initiative (EEMI) Grant Program sponsored by the National League of Cities with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. On June 27, 2021, the City received notification that this application was successful and the planning phase portion of the grant was awarded in the amount of $25,000. On August 19, 2021, the City Council approved adopting the 2nd amendment to the annual appropriation resolution NO. 2021-178 appropriating $25,000 for the EEMI Grant.

Recently the City received notification of the final award grant of $70,000. This grant is a supplement to funding the city received in 2021 through NLC's Equitable Economic Mobility Initiative (EEMI), bringing NLC's total EEMI investment in the City of Fresno to $95,000.
