Award a service contract to Kids Moving Inc., and approve a Joint Use Agreement with Central Unified School District.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended the Council approve a service contract with Kids Moving, Inc., subject to approval by the City Attorney's Office, and approve terms of a Joint Use Agreement with Central Unified School District (CUSD).

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On December 17, 2015, the Council approved appropriations to significantly expand the amount of available green space to City residents through a partnership with Fresno Unified and Central Unified School Districts. The program will open fourteen Fresno Unified campuses and two Central Unified campuses. The City subsequently issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a service provider who could provide a variety of recreational, fitness and health/nutrition oriented programming on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at these CUSD and FUSD school sites.

BACKGROUND

To address the lack of open space and recreational opportunities within the community, the City has partnered with CUSD and FUSD to provide the facilities needed to support a weekend recreation, fitness, and health/nutrition program that will operate at various school sites located throughout the Fresno community. The City has committed $1.2 million towards funding the program for one year, but anticipates additional funding to be allocated in subsequent budget cycles.

The City issued a RFP seeking proposals from qualified organizations to provide a variety of recreational, fitness, and health/nutrition oriented programming at various FUSD and CUSD school sites.
