Staff recommends Council approve the award of a purchase contract to Terex Utilities, Inc., of Watertown, South Dakota, for the purchase of one Terex tree trimmer truck in the amount of $186,806.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Department of Public Works, Street Maintenance Division seeks to purchase one Terex tree trimmer truck to prune trees that have been overgrown into roadway clearances. The new truck will be purchased as replacement through a competitively solicited cooperative procurement process administered by Sourcewell, formerly the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA).

BACKGROUND

The Department of Public Works, Street Maintenance Division provides service to the residents of Fresno through the construction and maintenance of roadways. This work is performed with crews to lay asphalt, sweep streets, and pour concrete to build curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. As concrete sidewalks and gutters become cracked due to tree roots, the concrete finishing team is called to perform repairs. After demolition, prep, and the removal of the invasive root system, the effected tree requires trimming to reduce the canopy proportionately to the root system.

To accomplish this task, the Street Maintenance Division operates one aging truck utilized daily to support the concrete finishing team. This unit was transferred from the Landscape Division last year and has experienced an increase in maintenance expenses....
